(More customer reviews)My husband and I really enjoyed this clock. Why we don't have it anymore has nothing to do with how it performed. It was a great clock. We liked how the numbers were large. That LED light makes it soothing to look at as well. No bright red, yellow or green lights. Just a nice blue(and there is a dimmer switch on it if it is too bright for you). It's taller than it is long which makes it a nice space saver. We also had quite a few storms last year, and if your power goes out and comes back on later (even after 2 days like what happened to us, the right time WILL show up again) And as an added bonus, the alarm still goes off on time if it is plugged in and the power is out (so long as you put a battery in it of course :D ). About that snooze button. We had no problems with that either. If you set the clock away from where you sleep, so you have to get up to turn it off, then you will actually look to see where the snooze/radio buttons are. Of course you're going to hit another button if you just reach over the bed, eyes half shut, and slap the thing. We had no problem finding the buttons with our eyes wide open. One more compliment has to be that we didn't find the buzzer annoying either. It was actually pleasant compared to every other one we tried out in the store. Go ahead, try them out. You'll see what we mean. It's more of a beep than a BUZZ! Which was really nice. Me personally I have to have the buzzer on. Otherwise I will fall back asleep to the music, and the one thing I can't stand to hear when I first wake up in the morning, is a loud BUZZ sound. Praise God, they made one that BEEPS for a change. (More customer reviews)What I wanted out of an alarm clock was something that would wake me up without driving me crazy.I can't stand alarm clocks that buzz or go "beebeebeebeep" and I hate waking up to music (because it makes it impossible to enjoy the songs after that).The RCA RP5440 is probably the closest I'll get.

This alarm clock is easy to set and has a dual alarm.I use alarm 1 for waking up for school and alarm 2 for waking up on weekends.They can't be set to days of the week, but I set one for 6AM and one for 8AM and switch between the two at the push of a button.

A problem I have always had waking up was that I could disable the alarm without waking up at all, so I would set three different alarms scattered across my room.Somehow, this alarm clock just wakes me up.Things may change as the school year drags on and my nights get later, but so far I am delighted.

The alarm makes a beeping sound, but it has a lot of tone to it, as opposed to the very electronic beeps I despise.It begins at a pleasantly quiet volume and increases within about 30 seconds to very loud.

The display is NOT blue digits on a black background as pictured, but black digits on a blue background.A very, very bright blue background.With the dimmer on (which auto-dims in darkness), it is like a night light.With the dimmer off, it is like a TV.This doesn't bother me, but if you can't sleep without total darkness, it will keep you up.

The projection feature is nice because I can simply hit the snooze button and the time is projected in red on my ceiling for about 10 seconds.The projector tilts and the angle changes so the time on the ceiling can be readable if you like the clock facing your bed or parallel to the headboard.

Some features I don't use but might be good for you are the adjustable snooze (1-30 minutes) and the sleep function, which allows you to fall asleep to the radio or your own music and it automatically shuts off.

One neat feature is the AUX input.This means, with the right cable (small headphone plug on each end, not included) you can plug your iPod into the radio and listen to it or fall asleep to it.iPods also have a sleep feature so you can make the two turn off at the same time.

My biggest problem with the alarm clock is the temperature feature.The indoor temperature feature is great and it works perfectly.But my window is 3 or 4 yards from my nightstand, so the outdoor temperature sensor can't contact the alarm clock.The sensor unit sits on my windowsill with the sensor wire sticking out the window and it reads a temperature.But the outdoor temperature, according to the alarm clock, is - - -.Also, since it's a basement window, the temperature is a good 10°F lower than the real outdoor temperature.If your window is within about 10 feet from your nightstand and above ground, it will work for you.I have other ways of finding out the current temperature, and the temperature at 6AM is rarely the temperature I want to dress for, so it didn't ruin the purchase for me.

Being in the basement makes the AM radio reception not that great.The FM works fine because the antenna is in the power cord and FM is generally stronger, but the AM antenna is inside the alarm clock and has poor reception.Rotating the alarm clock improves reception by a little, but that messes up my time projection angle!

The clock sets itself right out of the box (using its installed AA batteries, which keep time and alarms going in case of a power outage), and all you have to do is tell it your time zone and whether or not you are on daylight saving time.Both options have their own switch on the back.Unfortunately, the time I got was 5 minutes slow, which, had I not noticed, would make a big difference for my morning routine.

A contributing factor to my general idea that this is just a great alarm clock is how simple it is to set the time and alarms.There is a button to increase time and a button to decrease time.It goes by minutes (not hours), but it goes really fast when you hold the buttons.Never again will I have to waste time going through 59 minutes (on an old alarm clock that would scroll through minutes so slowly that pushing the button again and again was faster) because I accidentally set it to 6:01.

I am very happy with the alarm clock and I highly recommend it.Especially if you're above ground and have a window near your nightstand.

(More customer reviews)I was shopping for a projection clock for a while, reading reviews, etc. But then I got this one, which had no reviews. Why? - It was twice cheaper, and I assumed it couldn't be twice worse.
So far I haven't been mistaken. For $12 you get 2 clocks and an alarm radio. Not bad.
Notes:
1. Like many other projection clocks out there, the projection clock is independent from the one on the unit display, so you need to set both. It seems ridiculous, but could be a feature, if for some reason you need two different times set.
2. The projection clock is more flexible in settings. You can have 12 or 24-hour style of time display and have it alternate between time and date, if you'd like. Personally, I find alternation flashing annoying, and I don't really need to be reminded of the date every 3 seconds or so. The main unit clock only shows time and only 12 am/pm style.
3. The projection image is a little weak, but good for full darkness. You can't see it, if you have a night lamp on. But then there's the main unit screen. On the plus side, the image is not disturbingly bright at night.
4. Maybe it's my locality, but AM reception is way more clear than FM. I could not get any reasonable reception from FM at all.
5. There's a battery back up, and the projector image stays on constantly (or could be switched off entirely).
6. The setting of the time(s) is not very intuitive. I had to look at the instructions.
I haven't tried alarm.
In summary, this is a great deal for the money.

Jense AM/FM Projection Clock Radio - Silver (JCR-222) Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this clock because I wanted a projection system with a built in radio receiver. There are a few things about this system which is not mentioned by the seller or other reviewers on Amazon.

1. The projection system is a separate clock...meaning, it does not get the projection time information for the main LCD that shows in green. You have to set the time for projection separately!! Not sure how accurate this will be or if this will start to drift over time from the main time display.

2. Swivel for the projection: Not sure how someone calculated 120degree swivel for this...it does not swing 120 degrees. At best you can get about 90degree swivel.

3. Not stable: The unit is not stable. It sits on 3 stubby feet and if your nightstand or table surface is smooth and if you try to set the alarm or turn ON/OFF the projection, the clock will move all over the place. It is too light.

4. Ergonomics of use: The switches are not positioned well in place. They are on the side and are simple, cheap switches. They will NOT withstand use over time. It is difficult to turn OFF the alarm in the morning for the same reason....you have to fumble around to find the switch.

5. Jog Dial: No one mentions it, but the whole rim of the front face is a dial that you turn in one direction to set time and the other direction to set the minutes. This is extremely flimsy (read as classic chinese design!). You can skip through time easily if you are not very careful...makes setting the time difficult.

In short the features are not so great, but there is a certain value for the money you spend. I've had it for about 3 weeks at the time of this review and so far so good. Oh...by the way, the FM radio comes with a bundled wire antenna...not sure what you are supposed to do with this, but this will add to the clutter of your desk. The radio reception is fair...I will not say that it is great.

Projection system works ok. It is not too bright nor too faint...just about the right luminosity. Once you turn on projection it stays ON for ever till you turn it off using one of the flimsy switches. I've had clocks that give you options of continued projection or selective projection when you need it...I think I like them better.

The design is attractive. It found the time and date and kept the signal in a basement and on an airplane. The radio reception depends on the antenna placement, but is decent.Not functional:
Behind the clock is a control panel. It has 8 buttons: alarm, select, radio, up, down,... You cannot see the clock display and the controls at the same time.
Pacific Time is the default. There is no zone button. To set time zone you press `select' until time is flashing, press and hold `select' until ??? then hit the up or down buttons. You have to watch the time and press the buttons blindly. The buttons are bright orange plastic, so folded closed the unit loses appeal.

This is the fourth projection weather clock I bought & the only one I am keeping.If you follow the directions, the outside weather comes on & then the inside. I manually set the clock, & the next day the atomic time set itself & works perfectly. The Back light works either continuously or put it on auto & it comes on as the room darkens. I was a little skeptical when I bought it, but couldn't be happier now.

(More customer reviews)Not to be too critical... the clock works and projects as designed but I question why the projection and the clock are two entirely separate clocks. You set the clock by rotating the bezel (?) and then you have to set the projection clock separately. Two separate clocks?

Another thing I didn't like was that the projection is not bright enough and you cannot rotate the projection. It points forward and up - not left and right. I'd actually like to be able to turn it upside down so that I can see it right side up on my ceiling with the clock itself facing me as well. This is not possible.

Other than that it's not defective. Excepts maybe in the sense that it is deficient in design.

Emerson iC172 iPod Dock Alarm Clock Radio Review

(More customer reviews)Since I just got it, I'll try to post a followup review in a few weeks.
There seems to be only 1 review on this product (everywhere, believe me I looked) and I have been tracking this for a long while to see if more review would come but alas.The price was down to $49 and since I had a 10% coupon I thought the time was perfect.I was so dubious I had to download and read the entire manual online before visiting the store to check it out.The manual made it even better than I first thought - it just doesn't make sense that the price was so low.
To be honest I guess the biggest hesitation I had about buying this was the fact that, being a gadget freak, a brand like Emerson isn't exactly one that gets me excited to covet said product.I have never owned anything with this brand.
Having said that - these are the features that changed my mind (ranked by importance):
- projection clock - the one that I had really been coveting was an Oregon Scientific one that projects during the day as well, looks really sleek, when it alarms you wave at it and it stops. It does the 180 to reverse display in case needed. And yes, atomic time was cool too for all the obvious reasons - but guess what, it costs $119. It didn't matter how much I told myself that I was 'worth it' - I just couldn't justify spending that much for something that does just one thing. No radio, no dual alarm (I think), no in/out jack.THIS ONE has all that, the projection is bright compared to my old one (I did a side by side) and the focus adjust works great.I am visually impaired so this was important. But wait, theres more!
- IPOD mode - a lot of the made for IPOD products out there do not have a projection clock.That's a deal breaker for me - so that starts to narrow the selection even further.This one has adapters for the various generation ipods and for added measure it has a line in (for shuffle or other mp3 players).So what made me give it 4 instead of 5 stars is the fact that the dock is not made for IPHONE.And I knew that when I bought it.Having said that, if you don't care to miss calls while charging, then just put it in airplane mode.Ah, but this is where the line in comes handy for me - I can't miss phone calls (because of work), so if I don't care about charging my IPhone, I connect it to the line in and voila! no more interference (the wire I use is long enough to keep the phone away from the clock).SO for IPhone, to charge - put in the ipod dock, to use - connect to line in.Its like, whoever designed this product read my mind or was in the exact predicament I was in - I really feel that ( in case (s)he happens to read this review. p.s. this product better be reliable! )
- The sound quality is decent - I mean for the price, its not really fair to compare it to the Logitach 5.1 surround setup that I have on my laptop with a Creative Audigy sound card.Like the previous reviewer, I listened to a couple of other made for IPOD gadgets and they were all pretty awful and the one that sounded decent was in the $150 - 300 range.This one to me sounded better when it was louder.The bass could be better BUT again its really not that bad.If you are such an audiophile, you probably won't feel bad spending a few hundred dollars but I bet you probably will not get all the features this $45 has.
- The dual alarms, the weekend, weekday, 7 day alarm mode, the Smart Set, Sleep Mode, headphone jack and backup battery got thrown in too and it still $45! Depending on who you are, these could be nice to haves or absolute musts. I'll take 'em - all of them!I heard horror stories about atomic clocks being iffy on the receiver's strength or the signal's strength relative to your location - so this Smart Set fixes that issue.Lets just hope that the president doesn't change the DST again in a long while - but given that this contraption is already a swiss army knife masquerading as a bedside clock I wouldn't be surprised if there was a way to adjust for future changes like that as well ,like the way Iphone does firmware updates...ok maybe not.
- Can't wait to try the hand wave snooze thing tomorrow when the 'weekend mode' on Alarm2 goes off at 9.Whee!

So the biggest gamble for me is gong with a brand I haven't used before.I am hoping to be lucky, my last projection clock radio is a no name brand JWIN and it has always been reliable since I got it as an elephant gift 6 or 7 years ago.I am so hesitant to replace it - but the lure of smart set, ipod and the 'wave' upgrade (not to mention the price point) caused me to cave.I guess once you use a projection clock you can never go back - so my little girl will get the old one in her room. (unless they can develop one that tells you the time when you want without you having to open your eyelids - kekeke, yes I am lazy, but apparently not lazy enough to write a short review).
Heck I'm on a roll, I'll continue on - what does it NOT have that I wish it did (as if all the features for $45 wasn't enough) - a smaller footprint like the Scientific Oregon, a weather sensor, a remote, a clapper, a kitty litter box cleaner, a masseuse...just to emphasize how absolutely silly it is to expect more for this price >.< I'll just be thankful if its reliable for a few years.

To avoid hitting the snooze or reset button(s) and never waking up, I keep my alarm clock across the room from my bed.This way I wake up enough to get out of bed and walk across the room before I hit any buttons.As my eyes are getting older it has become increasingly more difficult to focus on the clock when I wake up in the middle of the night.

When I decided that a projection clock would solve my problem of focusing on the clock in the middle of the night, I started to look around for one and I was not pleased with what was out there.I did not need nature sounds, nor did I need a light to turn on as part of the alarm.I do not have an MP3 player to dock into my clock, and I do not need a complete weather report when I open my eyes (LOL, I will find that out soon enough when I shlep out of bed and let the dogs outside!).I do not need to know what time the alarm is set (Ijust like to be reassured that it is on), and I am perfectly capable of pressing a few buttons to set the time all by myslef.

This little guy projects the time and whether or not the alarm is on...the two things that I am most interested in when I open my eyes in the middle of the night.The projection can be moved 180 degrees and the further away you project the time, the larger it is.It has an adjustable backlight on the face so it is not too bright.It has an AM/FM radio with ten station presets, and when the alarm is set to chime instead of the radio, it starts gentle so as not to jar you awake.It does have two alarms, but instead of having a choice of alarm types (chime or radio) Alarm 1 uses the radio and Alarm 2 uses the chime.The chime is a little bit quieter than I am used to, but it woke me up just fine this morning.

So far (after one night) I love this clock, it's a great price, and I would defiantly recommend it!

(More customer reviews)This review refers to the CKS3528 model, which I purchased from Amazon's partner, Target. The only difference between my model and this one is that the clock projection has a selectable color filter on the CKS3528. This unit listed here does not.

I purchased this clock for the large digit display and projection functions. So far both are working out quite nicely. The display is not too bright at night, when the dimmer is set to low. It is still quite readable in a lit room. The projection is too dim to read if the room is lit, but it works nicely in the dark. I am nearsighted, but I have no problem reading the ceiling display with my glasses off at night. I'd guess the digits are about 10 inches high on my ceiling. The projection is also not so bright that it lights up the room or keeps me awake.

The smart set function is little more than a preset internal clock that lives off a lithium battery when it is not plugged in. The manual says the battery will last 3 years even if the unit is never plugged in, and should last 5+ years when used normally. The clock allows you to change the time settings yourself (if you like your clock 5-10 minutes fast, or if the time ever drifts) and the internal memory will keep the new time setting. This is a nice improvement over the RCA version that I replaced, which had drifted about 2 minutes off and could not be corrected.

The clock knows 7 times zones: Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, Yukon, and Hawaiian. Since you can change the internal time memory anyway, I imagine it would be pretty easy to use this in any zone and just fix the time shift once. However, the clock obeys the 2007 US daylight savings time rules: starting 2nd Sunday of March, ending 1st Sunday of November. There does not appear to be a way to turn DST off. So, if your state or country does not follow these rules, you'll have to change the time or timezone every time the DST changes do not match your area.

The radio is set by an analog dial. The dial indicator lights up when the clock is plugged in, but it's still not easy to tell by the display what channel number you have set. It doesn't seem to drift very badly, but my chosen wake-up station is pretty strong in my area. I'd have preferred a digital tuner.

There are two alarms. Each can be set to wake by buzzer or radio. Each alarm can be set to run for 7-days, 5-days (Mon-Fri), or 2-days (Sat-Sun). The buzzer alarms wake by crescendo, that is, they start softly and increase in volume. I can't comment on how loud they get, since I don't use buzzer alarms. The wake by radio function works nicely, coming on directly to the volume that you have preset. To turn off the buzzer alarms, you have to find one of the tiny (1) or (2) alarm buttons among the many on top of the unit. To turn off the radio alarm, you can also hit the much larger Radio On/Off button on the right end of the unit. The snooze button is large and easy to find in the middle. Snooze is fixed at 9 minutes.

I recommend this clock to anyone who likes to wake up to a radio, and who lives in a US timezone following the new DST rules. My only complaint is the lack of a digital radio tuner.
