iLive IC618B Clock Radio with Enhanced Sound and Docking Station for iPod (Black) Review

iLive IC618B Clock Radio with Enhanced Sound and Docking Station for iPod
Average Reviews:

Overall this is a good clock and the speakers are very clear. My iPod Touch fit just fine and it was always charged afterwards.
But even with these good things, I must warn people about this items main purpose: this is a poor alarm. The controls are a little confusing but I still managed just fine to set the alarm. My biggest complaint is in the alarm's volume; the alarm starts out soft but it quickly gets louder and louder until it is at an almost deafening volume. This will be good for people who have to get up but I am planning on using this item in college in my dorm but it is way too loud for the close quarters of a dorm room, especially when another person will be in the room.

I just want to warn people of this one thing so you don't have to return the clock like I am.

MICROLAB MD332 iPod 2.1 Stereo System with Alarm Clock AM/FM & Remote Control Review

MICROLAB MD332 iPod 2.1 Stereo System with Alarm Clock AM/FM & Remote Control
Average Reviews:

If you can accept the oddities of the unit: A) 24-hour clock only, B) less than sterling AM-FM radio, C) odd antenna connections, D) quaint and outmoded LED display, you will find yourself possessing a fine, compact speaker system that produces an excellent level of sound and power you wouldn't expect at this price point. It might also function as a decent, inexpensive sound bar for a TV. And I agree with others: it's too large and heavy to think of as a bedside clock radio.

Nextplay Fashion iPod Docking Clock Radio - NP109CR Review

We bought this alarm clock for our daughter. We didn't get it on Amazon, but I was so put off by this product that I decided to leave a review here anyway. We originally thought it was really cool when we opened it because it came with tons of accessory "docks" to fit almost all types of iPods. It has a couple of major flaws though.

1. When the alarm goes off it starts at a low volume and then within 5 seconds it's blaring as loud as the volume can go. It does this in all modes (Radio, iPod, Buzzer). There is no way to change this and you can't effect it by adjusting the volume before the alarm goes off.

2. It has an Audio Out port on the back for attaching headphones, other equipment, etc. The only problem is, when you connect the headphones sound still comes out of the speakers too. To me, this is a major flaw.

I'll be trying to return this product to the store as soon as I can find the box. It took us a week or two to discover these flaws, so hopefully the store will take it back.

Cygnett GrooveTime II Alarm Clock and Radio Speaker System for iPod Review

Cygnett GrooveTime II Alarm Clock and Radio Speaker System for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I haven't written a product review before but I felt compelled to write one for this clock in order to warn people about the problems with this product.

I bought this alarm clock because I really liked the shape and the fact that it doubles as an iPod player.Well, that's all that it has going for it.There are MAJOR problems with this product:

1.The display is so bright that it is blinding. There is no way to turn the brightness down.
2.Setting the time on the clock was rather confusing.I kept having to refer to the manual. Was I setting the time, the alarm, was it on AM or PM?It all was rather confusing.I think that the confusion could be solved by a simple am/pm/alarm sticker on the display with a little red dot going to the appropriate item, or something similar to that.
3.Turning the alarm setting on and off is not simple or user friendly. I kept having to pull the pamplet out and re-read the instructions on how to turn the alarm feature off.I think that the manufacturer failed to think about that most people would need to turn the alarm setting on and off, as most of us have days off from work and don't want to wake up every morning at the same time.
4.If you want to play your iPod, you need to switch it to iPod mode. When in iPod mode, the clock display goes off after one minute. Now why on earth would I want my clock to turn off while I was playing my iPod?I still want to know what time it is when my iPod is playing, oh and go ahead and get the manual back out in order to figure out how to take it off of iPod mode, because if you don't, you are liable to change some other setting that you didn't realize that you were changing (it happened to me).

Using this alarm clock was a very frustrating experience.I never thought that an alarm clock would be so difficult to use.I plugged in my old alarm clock again and this one is sitting back in the box, ready to be returned.

This product was/is kind of misrepresented, and not only on this website. It is not a true iHome. It would not take my niece's iPod, and it is not a docking station. We purchased from computer brain, explained the situation, and they gave us our purchase price and shipping back.We thought this was a class act and would purchase from them again if they were to sell a product we are interested in.

I don't know how to rate it but Timex has been around awhile and it looks like a good product.

I got this as a christmas present, and was sorely disappointed. Avid music listener as I am, I immediately plugged my iPod in to the iMode. I was disappointed to find that the sound quality lacked depth and fullness. In fact, I have an aged set of speakers from Altec Lansing (which I bought for maybe $10 at a garage sale) and their sound quality is exponentially better than the iMode's. And when I play my music loudly, the iMode makes a rattling noise, because apparently one of the buttons is a bit loose. Oh, and I set the alarm this morning, and I have no idea what happened, but it didn't go off. If you're looking for an alarm clock for your ipod with good sound quality, look elsewhere. My friend has the iPlace (I think), and it sounds much better than mine.

There are better products out there. I bought this for my son for his birthday. The overall appearance is great. The color matches nicely with his blue nano. When listening to the radio it sounds great. But when listening to the ipod you have to turn it way up to hear anything over the static. If you like listening to your music really loud I guess that that is fine. My son, however, uses it to listen to instrumental music while he sleeps and loud just kind of defeats the purpose.

iHome iH6 Clock Radio for iPod (Black) Review

iHome iH6 Clock Radio for iPod

I just got this and it works very well.I first bought the Eton Sound 50 Speaker Dock, which had a great sound, but the problem with it was that it was too loud for the office.I finally decided to get this one and having used both now, I can say this is the better system, for the office. The reason is that this system is much quieter than the Eton system.I haven't tested its highs yet, but it's lows are low enough that I can play any type of music I want. With my old system, I was only able to play solo piano music.

The only aspect to this system I do not like as compared with the Eton speakers is the functionality of the remote. With the Eton system I was able to control the iPod completely with my remote so that I could scroll through menus and select songs. With this sytem, the remote only allows you to skip to the next/previous song and not through the menus. It's a definite drawback if you plan to put the dock further than arms' reach away.

JBL On Time 400IHD High-Performance Speaker Dock with HD Digital Radio for iPod (Black) Review

JBL On Time 400IHD High-Performance Speaker Dock with HD Digital Radio for iPod
Average Reviews:

Like others, I was so excited to receive the speaker system until I plugged it in.I read the reviews and the description on Amazon. It specifies that it is compatible with the ipod touch 2nd g...well, it's not.It does not charge the ipod touch 2nd g and has a hard time trying to play the music from it...it doesn't always register the info and the remote doesn't operate the functions from the ipod.I really don't think it was made for the ipod touch 2nd generation...so be careful. The adapters only specify the ipod touch...I'm assuming only works with the 1st generation.
I was extremely disappointed since that was one of the main reasons I made the purchase last week from the goldbox offer of the day.The remote is worthless...it works when it wants to and sometimes plays other functions not commanded. It doesn't seem to be a battery issue.

I live in the center of a major city and have access to HD radio channels (20 stations) but this player had so much trouble locating the stations and occasionally skipped to other channels when it incurred reception problems without my command.I had both antennas (am/fm) connected into the system so it should have worked.I love the fact that it has so many options but they need to rethink about its functionality...necessary changes. There is no mute button on the remote or interface...bummer. The blue backlight doesn't have an off feature and the font is less than attractive. The manufacture needs to seriously work on improving their system...yikes!

The speakers were the only substantial thing to the system. It has excellent sound quality when you can get the radio to hold a channel...very, very disappointing.

Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 Speaker System and Clock Radio with iPod Dock (Black) Review

Sony ICF-C1IPMK2 Speaker System and Clock Radio with iPod Dock
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There seems to be some confusion, Sony had a previous model of this that was very similar but was NOT iphone compatible. This new model IS iphone compatible. Make sure the box says "iphone" and not just ipod on it or make sure you order this unit (from this review.) Sony really should have changed the name or the look more. I suppose they will replace the old one with this one ultimately.

I found a great review of this also in ilounge.com where they gave it an A- and they are pretty stingy with their A's so I knew it had to be good. This is in fact a GREAT iphone / ipod clock radio / speaker system. I was pretty blown away by it and the price. They called it Sony's BEST iphone / ipod accessory ever and I agree.

Pro's:

First, most iphone systems like this start at $150, so this is a great deal at under $100. The unit is pretty small really and sets up instantly. Nothing like a great product for less than what you expect to pay.

Amazing sound! I was unprepared for the quality of the sound and even the "mega-xpand" really does seem to give you a larger, more separated sound. I don't know how this stacks up to say a $300 Bose ipod speaker system but I am more than happy for a bed side / desk side speaker. I have had it for 4 days and I have not heard any noticeable cell phone noise or interference also.

There is a very nice adjustable knob in the back that you turn to adjust the position of the dock for the ipod. Hard to explain but this solves the issue of different ipods being thicker or thinner than others. You adjust it once and it stays put - impressive. Should make it compatible with many different ipods.

The Remote! It comes with a tiny infrared remote that lets you control ALL of the ipod's music controls. Very slick. You can menu up to all the playlists, album, songs, artists etc.. and then drill down and play. Also very impressive! It will even turn on the ipod its its off / asleep. This is extremely useful!

The clock functions are ok, I can't say much good or bad really here. 2 alarms, adjustable display on the clock, programmable radio stations buttons, an AM and FM antenna. I usually just use my iphone's alarm to wake me up but I assume the clock stuff is also good. Its a pretty basic alarm system, buzzer, radio etc.. no multi day alarms or such. Also has sleep mode that you can set on the remote. No nature sounds or any of that. Just 2 alarms and snooze, etc. More than enough for me.

It also has an audio in port on the back which is very nice for watching movies or such on the ipod & playing thru the speakers. I won't use it much but its a killer feature.

It also has some sort of auto time set function, works ok but I had to set my time zone. I think it comes with a built in lithium battery to keep the clock function set in case of a power outage, also nice feature.

Con's:

Not many really. The unit seems a tad unstable on my desk, like its top heavy but it hasn't fallen over or anything. I might try and put something under the back to make it more stable.

The alarm display is very cluttered, even if you have the alarms off, it still displays one of the alarm times and such. The time display is very large so thats not an issue but it be nice to turn off some of the extra display stuff.

Even with the knob adjusted, I still have to carefully position the iphone on the dock and slide it in, I wish it would slide it more easily. Also not a huge detractor.

Don't get me wrong I love the design of this stereo/alarm, but that's about it. The sound from the speakers are high pitched (like cheap speakers), so the sound quality isn't very good. The light from the clock is pretty bright. It lights up my whole room and makes it hard to sleep. The alarm setting on isn't thought out. The music comes on blasting or if you set the bell on it, it sounds like a horn. If I would have had a chance to try it out before I purchased it. I don't think I would have bought it.. SDI iHome iP99BR - Clock radio with iPhone / iPod cradle Review

SDI iHome iP99BR - Clock radio with iPhone / iPod cradle
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
With the "Logitech® Pure-Fi Dream" now an aborted project (a Logitech sales rep told me, point blank; no chance), and the ExtremeMac "Luna X2" getting pushed back AGAIN and AGAIN, iPhone and Touch users are finding it pretty difficult to track down a compatable alarm clock.

I bought an IH9 from iHome, and tried it out for a few weeks. A great unit, with one deal-breaking exception. Humming at low volumes!! I tried turning off the Wi-Fi...., lowering the backlight... but I still had this annoying hum. When the device is 3 feet from your pillow, and you use it for going to sleep, this flaw is unforgivable.

Returned the unit, and just received my iP99BR direct from iHome.

Well, I love it. The design is slightly less sexified than the IH9, but the sound seems slightly bolder. The remote is larger, and feels weighted; a comfortable fit. One disadvantage of the design is that the display is straight-on, whereas the IH9 seemed tilted up slightly, which gave a better visibility. Not really a major complaint.

The key difference is that the iP99BR appears to have corrected the horrid humming sound at low (and all) volumes that plagued the IH9. I suppose they shielded the speakers correctly, but in any case, my only real complaint has been resolved.

The bottom line is, for iPhone and Touch owners, the iP99BR is the only game in town.... certainly at this price-point.

I won't bother to go over the feature set. Just look at the product description and reviews for the IH9. They share identical features, which are legion, and are great.

Don't know why there were no previous reviews for this product -- because so few people had bought it or because everybody who bought it was happy with it?? I'm quite pleased with the Tunepro, especially in comparison with similar products, most of which cost much more. Sound quality is surprisingly good when the WOW feature is turned, not boomy at all, tuner is OK, clock and alarm work OK, product design (appearance and function) are very good. Only criticism is that there is no battery backup for the clock.

Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After having to accept tinnitus and hyperacusis as a fact of life, I started looking at white noise devices to play as I go to sleep. They are expensive, and the tracks are not very good - rather canned sounding.Oh, and the tracks are short. They repeat every 10-15 seconds. Not ideal for someone who is already having trouble going to sleep (it's about to go back to the beginning...right...NOW.Here it goes again...).

Then it hit me.Get a bedside clock/radio with iPod and I won't be limited to 3 or 4 sounds!I purchased this particular iHome, but really any model will accomplish the same thing. There are tons of tracks here on Amazon or iTunes for your choosing (I recommend "A Day On Cape Cod: Babbling Brook".See my review on iTunes).

The downside to the iHome, and this has been mentioned on the other model reviews, is that anytime you set the alarm, or change the alarm time, there is a rather loud confirmation BEEP.That could be disturbing to anyone else sleeping in the room. Also mentioned by others is that the light on clock is a little bright, even at it's lowest setting.I got used to it.Unfortunately, at the lowest setting you can't see the time during the day by just glancing into the room from a hallway, for instance.

The sound quality is decent, but I really don't use it for anything other than while going to sleep. The remote is handy, I guess, once you learn the buttons.

Overall, this iHome has fit my needs perfectly.Again, I recommend something like this as an alternative to expensive white noise sound devices. You have all the flexibility that you need with this and you can find a million tracks under New Age or Atmosphere sections.I'm using an old iPod mini that had a battery that wouldn't hold a charge (which doesn't matter with this as it is always receiving power).I tried a 1st gen iPod nano and an iPod classic and they both worked just fine.
