(More customer reviews)Once you get past the fact that Amazon has really misrepresented this item, I can say that it really is a what I needed. Yes, as mentioned by another reviewer, there is NO CD player funtion at all. It would have been fantastic if Philips had designed it with one in mind, but I think it would have killed it's compact size which is why I bought it.There are only 5 presets (not 20 as per Amazon's description and the unit only plays FM, no AM). This is mentioned in the "Technical Details" of the description page, if you click on it. The detail that there is no CD funtion is there, too - very contradictory.
I love the fact that it's small (I can move it from room to room). There are three wake-up modes (FM radio, gentle wake buzzer, and iPod dock). But, the best item would have to be the wOOx technology for powerful bass, on the back of the unit. That sold me on this "Play and Charge" unit, and I love that feature the most.The sound is excellent for the price. You can still connect a portable CD player, VCR or even an iPod Shuffle, through the AUX port and cord supplied. So, it's not a one trick pony.
The clock function is good, with 3 brightness settings (Bright, Low and OFF), and both Sleep and Snooze funtions on the alarm.I found it simple to set the clock and alarm(s).No battery back-up is a negative.Even a simple 9V would be enough to keep presets and radio function if the power went out.
Overall: I like it, I really do.

(More customer reviews)at first i was very impressed with the iHome iH55SR. it boasted great sound, a nice remote, and simple controls in a sleek compact design. unfortunately, my delight turned to frustration shortly before bedtime when i realized the display was so bright it was as if a spotlight was shining into my bedroom. on the plus side the iH55SR does feature a dimmer which allows the owner to adjust the display's brightness. when on the medium setting the clock radio's display is a bit brighter than a child's night-light. however, unlike a night-light which is usually a warm color light (e.g. red, yellow, or orange) the clock's display is a cool blue which has a bigger impact in the dark. sadly, on the lightest setting the clock is barely readable, although this would not be an issue if the display would turn brighter when the alarm goes off. as it stands now i leave it on the medium setting when i go to bed, but i wish i would have just spent the extra $20 on the latest model.

(More customer reviews)I've had this speaker/radio for my Ipod Nano for about six months.I got it for around $50 at JC Penney on sale.My problem with it is that every time I touch it, the plug-in wire in the back of the radio comes unplugged, so I lose my time on the clock and it's very tiresome.I'm going to use it in a spot that I don't need a clock and then buy a replacement after I've done a little research.I though $50 was a good deal for this but knowing what I now know, it was too much because I hate resetting the clock so much.All other functions work well.

(More customer reviews)We bought this alarm clock because I like to listen to music while I am upstairs (just bedrooms) and I don't want to have a separate stereo in already tight quarters.The design looks simple, much better than my old alarm clock.After a brief glance at the instructions, we had it up and running.We used it with both my old 20gb click wheel iPod and my daughter's newer 40gb iPod video.Both worked great.Here is what we think:

Pros:

-Dual Alarm
-Battery Backup (comes with batteries)
-Sets the time itself
-Looks nice, clean design
-Charges my iPod so it is always ready
-8 FM 4 AM preset stations
-Remote with battery included
-Adjustable brightness
-Sound quality is nice for a product like this
-Slide a switch for Daylight Savings!

Cons:

-You have to wake to iPod (or buzzer if no iPod is docked) for first alarm, radio for second alarm
-Control by remote has a little lag time
-iPod cannot be in a case or skin to be docked...I wanted to get this for my daughter, but I know she will not pull hers out of the skin to dock it every day and I told her she has to use the case to protect the video screen.(My iPod skin is older and the bottom folds out of the way so mine works.)
-When you turn on the iPod, you can only play what is already selected...a playlist, CD, or just all your songs...you can't pick and choose, but you can skip forward or back in order.

Overall I like this clock a lot and would recomend it as a way to have music when you want it in a bedroom!

It is not a true iHome.It would not take my niece's iPod, and it is not a docking station.We purchased from computer brain, explained the situation, and they gave us our purchase price and shipping back.We thought this was a class act and would purchase from them again if they were to sell a product we are interested in.

I don't know how to rate it but Timex has been around awhile and it looks like a good product.

(More customer reviews)This is a fun little device - the perfect size with plenty of features.It fits on my nightstand in place of your typical alarm clock, not taking up any extra room.It easily packs up to go on the road with you.It has custom adapters included for every size of docking iPod, as well as a connector for non-docking iPods.Great sound, great control of sleep vs. wake volumes, and a nice dimming feature with 4 settings to it, so that the light of the clock doesn't keep you awake.And if you forget to dock your iPod, the buzzer alarm will still sound (actually it's a beeping alarm).

If you are a heavy sleeper, or like 90 minutes of sleep music in addition to your wake music, I recommend putting your iPod on shuffle all songs before docking it on this station so that you won't get to the end of your playlist and run out of music.

I only have two complaints about the iHome 2 Go travel alarm clock.One is that my clock seems to gain a few minutes every day, so it ends up being very fast.I reset the time once a week.The other is that I have to remove my iSkin to dock my iPod.I was sure when I bought the skin that it said I wouldn't have to remove it to dock the iPod, but because of how the docking works on this station, I do.

(More customer reviews)I just got this and it works very well.I first bought the Eton Sound 50 Speaker Dock, which had a great sound, but the problem with it was that it was too loud for the office.I finally decided to get this one and having used both now, I can say this is the better system, for the office. The reason is that this system is much quieter than the Eton system.I haven't tested its highs yet, but it's lows are low enough that I can play any type of music I want.With my old system, I was only able to play solo piano music.

The only aspect to this system I do not like as compared with the Eton speakers is the functionality of the remote.With the Eton system I was able to control the iPod completely with my remote so that I could scroll through menus and select songs.With this sytem, the remote only allows you to skip to the next/previous song and not through the menus.It's a definite drawback if you plan to put the dock further than arms' reach away.

SDI iHome iP99BR - Clock radio with iPhone / iPod cradle Review

(More customer reviews)With the "Logitech® Pure-Fi Dream" now an aborted project (a Logitech sales rep told me, point blank; no chance), and the ExtremeMac "Luna X2" getting pushed back AGAIN and AGAIN, iPhone and Touch users are finding it pretty difficult to track down a compatable alarm clock.

I bought an IH9 from iHome, and tried it out for a few weeks. A great unit, with one deal-breaking exception. Humming at low volumes!! I tried turning off the Wi-Fi...., lowering the backlight... but I still had this annoying hum. When the device is 3 feet from your pillow, and you use it for going to sleep, this flaw is unforgivable.

Returned the unit, and just received my iP99BR direct from iHome.

Well, I love it. The design is slightly less sexified than the IH9, but the sound seems slightly bolder. The remote is larger, and feels weighted; a comfortable fit. One disadvantage of the design is that the display is straight-on, whereas the IH9 seemed tilted up slightly, which gave a better visibility. Not really a major complaint.

The key difference is that the iP99BR appears to have corrected the horrid humming sound at low (and all) volumes that plagued the IH9. I suppose they shielded the speakers correctly, but in any case, my only real complaint has been resolved.

The bottom line is, for iPhone and Touch owners, the iP99BR is the only game in town.... certainly at this price-point.

I won't bother to go over the feature set. Just look at the product description and reviews for the IH9. They share identical features, which are legion, and are great.

(More customer reviews)I really like this gadget.The sound is excellent - nice and full, not tinny, not boomie.The controls are a good compromise between giving lots of control w/out being too complex.I love the large display and it has plenty of illimination levels to compensate for bright direct lighting or a dark room.The integration of the iPod works well and the remote makes it easy to surf your music library with the device docked.I only have two (minor) complaints:
- You use two wheels to control volume, select radio station, set the time, etc.These are clearly meant to emulate the touch wheels on an actual iPod, however, these wheels are mechanical, and you really have to push down on them to get them to spin - otherwise your finger just slips on the surface.I fear that this mechanical component will break (fortunately you can do all the same stuff with the remote).It would have been better if they had used a touch sensitive wheel, or made the surface of the wheel rougher.
- The device has a spiffy feature whereby, if you have a alarm set to use the ipod, but it isn't there, the alarm will sound to be sure you wake up.This is great unless you listen to classical music, which has a very wide dynamic range.Several times the iHome has started by playing something off my iPod, then thought the iPod was gone (because the music was playing softly), and switched to the alarm.This can be resolved by selecting music which doesn't have such quiet passages, but it is kind of annoying.

Her last iHome (probably a first generation version) deteriorated after a few years, i.e. dials did not sync well to adjust alarm time and volume; time of day was off by about 10 minutes and there was no way to fix it; iTouch did not fit in the charger. But to its credit it lasted quite a long time (for an alarm clock) that's why we got another one.

(More customer reviews)This is a mostly very well thought out clock radio.I list below my LIKES and DISLIKES, so that you can more easily determine if this would be a good purchase for you:

LIKES:

* It charges your Ipod

* The alarm can be set to wake you up to your Ipod music (you create a Playlist on your Ipod called "iHome" with whatever song(s) you want; then when setting the alarm, you choose the option to wake to playlist)

* The alarm is a gradual alarm.Whether you choose to wake to a buzzer, iPod, radio, etc., the sound of the alarm starts gradually, before it comes on too loud.This is a nicer way to wake up, I think

* The digital display is very bright on its brightest setting.This can be useful as a nightlight in your room.However, if the radio is close to your bed, the brightness can easily be adjusted lower by pressing the "snooze" button until you find your desired brightness

* The sound quality is fine.Obviously, it cannot match full-size speakers, and for the price, it is not going to be quite as solid as similar sized radios which cost twice as much (or more).But, for this attractive price, the sound quality is fine, acceptable, etc.!

* It can be programmed to only way on the 5 weekdays, 2 weekend days or all 7 days.Although, as noted below, this may not be working correctly, or maybe I am missing a setting

* The price is very competitive for the features you receive on this radio

DISLIKES:

* Setting the alarm requires spinning a wheel-like dial.If you set different times regularly, and especially if those different times are far apart from each other, spinning the dial can be troublesome.

* Even though you are supposed to be able to set it for "5 days" (meaning it should only wake you M-F), I cannot seem to make that work properly.So, I work around this by telling it to wake me all 7 days, and on the weekends when my wake up schedule is different, I simply change the wake up time.

SUMMARY:

The LIKES greatly outweight the DISLIKES.This is a great iPod clock radio.

(More customer reviews)I bought this radio after extensive searching both on Amazon and the Apple website. After several days of use, I'm very happy: it's very well designed, sounds good, and works as promised. The two criticisms which prevent my awarding a '5' are 1. that the clock/radio is unaware of the phone ring (it won't turn down music, or broadcast the ring through the speakers and thus you can miss inbound calls), and 2. the audio quality is good, not great.

Prior to buying, I looked for a clock radio that worked with the iPhone 3G and offered excellent audio quality. My goal was to consolidate some of the equipment in my room: ipod speakers, clock, radio, charging station. Sound quality and aesthetic were both important to me.

The box includes the radio, remote, charger, an fm antenna (just a wire), and an am wire (a loop antenna). There are inserts for several types of iPods and the iPhone 3G.

The manual is shockingly well written. It's simple (about 4 pages in English) but complete.

The clock has several cool features: you can set an alarm to wake you up every day, every weekday, and only on weekends. Each alarm can be set to wake you to radio, a specific ipod playlist, or a random song from your library. There's a buzzer alarm too.

The interface is really intuitive. Controls and settings are easy to use. There's a cool 'turn down' feature that softens music (ultimately to off) while you fall asleep.

I previously used the Bose Sound Dock before and loved it. The audio is excellent, but it does not have the clock nor the FM radio function. The iP9 does not live up to the audio quality of the Bose. Not Bose, but good.

As stated, the radio/iPod is unaware of the phone's ringing. It would be really nice if it turned down the volume so you could hear the ring! Or even better, the ringer should sound through the speakers.

I am really happy with the product. I would give it a 5 with better sound quality and a ring 'awareness'.

1) The control buttons on top have raised designs to distinguish them, but not raised enough.So you hunt and peck for the right button in the dark searching to turn off the alarm.I've placed a very small blob of clear glue from my glue-gun next to the off button to find it more easily.
2) I have an older version of the iPod mini.Out of the 5 plug-in adapters for different iPods that come with the unit.... NONE of them are for the older version of my iPod mini.It still works... but I have to be careful plugging it in and taken it out and not bumping it when plugged in.
