(More customer reviews)I originally bought this unit a few years ago at double the price when it was sold under a `known' shortwave-maker's brand...but promptly returned it because the shortwave reception was so poor. The radio (at the time), generally got good reviews from others for its clarity on AM/FM, and its small use of battery power. But I wanted it for 'shortwave'.Unfortunately, (as I found out from others), that it's a waste of time trying to pull-in shortwave stations inside an apartment/condo made of concrete and steel.But even out on my balcony at night, the shortwave reception was NOT stunning. But I did like the unit in general, and now that the manufacturer is selling it under his own `brand', it's half the price. So, I bought it again, but this time I was better-prepared. I strung about 10 feet of 16 gauge stranded copper wire along the top of a window, and attached it with an alligator clip to the tip of the radio's (included) whip antenna.Well, I can't exactly say that I'm now 'overwhelmed' with the radio's shortwave performance now that I've added extra antenna wire. But it is substantially better in its shortwave reception (with the extra wire along a window). But you have to remember to keep you fingers far away from the radio's (included) whip antennae...even where it goes inside the radio's plastic case...or, when listening to shortwave, you will get a lot of (what I believe is called `spill') from nearby, high powered AM stations. And also, on AM, the station separation on this radio is somewhat mediocre. You'll hear a lot of cross channel talking/music.
