This radio functions well in that it does exactly what is advertised, but the battery consumption is horrible.
This unit eats through a set of 3 AA batteries every three (3) days. No, I'm not kidding.THREE DAYS. EVERY TIME.

If you want to run this unit solely on battery power, better be ready either pay a high price for the number of batteries you'll use, or switch to rechargeables and change THEM out every 3 days.(At this rate, rechargeables would even wear out in a short time.)I don't know if this is common amoung weather radios, but it is a huge problem with the Midland HH54VP.

I've never had any electronic item eat battery power so quickly.Had I known of this issue, I would have made a different choice.I prefer to use batteries in the event of power loss during the night. You never know when power could go out - possibly even during a bad heat wave. For me, not being able to use batteries with confidence is basically the same as not having a weather radio at all.If I forget to check and don't change the batteries, that leaves my family unprotected.

This is ridiculous. I won't continue to spend $ for batteries for a $35 unit. I'll look for a better engineered radio. (So much for "peace of mind".)

It is my sincere hope that a MIDLAND EXECUTIVE OR REPRESENTATIVE reads this review.I purchased the unit through Amazon for best price - but I've put as much in it(or more)for ... you guessed it ... BATTERIES!
