(More customer reviews)I really like this gadget.The sound is excellent - nice and full, not tinny, not boomie.The controls are a good compromise between giving lots of control w/out being too complex.I love the large display and it has plenty of illimination levels to compensate for bright direct lighting or a dark room.The integration of the iPod works well and the remote makes it easy to surf your music library with the device docked.I only have two (minor) complaints:
- You use two wheels to control volume, select radio station, set the time, etc.These are clearly meant to emulate the touch wheels on an actual iPod, however, these wheels are mechanical, and you really have to push down on them to get them to spin - otherwise your finger just slips on the surface.I fear that this mechanical component will break (fortunately you can do all the same stuff with the remote).It would have been better if they had used a touch sensitive wheel, or made the surface of the wheel rougher.
- The device has a spiffy feature whereby, if you have a alarm set to use the ipod, but it isn't there, the alarm will sound to be sure you wake up.This is great unless you listen to classical music, which has a very wide dynamic range.Several times the iHome has started by playing something off my iPod, then thought the iPod was gone (because the music was playing softly), and switched to the alarm.This can be resolved by selecting music which doesn't have such quiet passages, but it is kind of annoying.
