(More customer reviews)Because I like this portable iPod speaker so much I bought several of this radio/speaker for my friends and myself. It is small and sleek with lots of functions. The sound quality is good and loud. It shows date, time and temperature. It has dual alarms. Best of all, it can be powered by alkaline AA or rechargable AA batteries, which are much cheaper and lighter than C or D size batteries. I usually use AC adapter when I am awake, and use rechargable AA batteries when I listen to my MP3 in bed before sleep.
I always use an audio cable to connect my MP3 player tothis speaker; I never put my iPod on its iPod dock. Why not? Because of my past experiences: I used other radio/speaker or charger to charge my iPod, but they charge iPod too fast. This is not gentle on MP3 players' batteries, and my iPod's battery life suddenly became much shorter after using these kind of chargers (and its bettery life did not recover). It is similar with AA rechargable batteries, they last much longer when they are always charged on lowest current.
The speaker is surprisingly loud and clear (Of course, for its low price, the sound quality is not perfect). Sometimes I will plug an 3.5mm audio Y splitter in my MP3 player, and connect the player to two Insignia speakers, the result is soooo loud and soooo three dimensional! Try it if you need loud music or outdoor use but do not want to carry a big-and-heavy boombox, you can even use Belkin RockStar 5-Way 3.5-mm Headphone Splitter (White) and more audio cables to connect to more speakers. By doing so, you can have a theater-like, surrounding sound without carrying super-heavy speakers (which I really hate).
I usually avoid using headphones. However, I sometimes will use an Audio Y-spilliter to connect 2 headphones to my MP3 player: one pair of in-ear earbus plus one pair of over-the-head headphones. By listen to two pair of earphones, The sound quality is truely amazing and beautiful.
Anyway, like other cheap speakers, this is not perfect, but is good enough for everyday use. I really love it and hope you find this review helpful.
