(More customer reviews)Normally I couldn't recommend a Jwin/iLuv product (several other items from the manufacturer proved disposable), but give this handy, rugged unit a night or two--just enough time to familiarize yourself with the controls--and it's plenty easy to love. It's rugged, performs flawlessly, offers abundant versatility (input and output on front for, say, iPod and pillow speaker respectively).I have the preset on a multiplex jazz channel, which it plays without fail, offering easy and convenient sleep and snooze options. The sound is good--not as resonant in the bass frequencies as a more expensive Tivoli or Bose but "tight" and authentic, rather than the "plastic-like" sound of cheap, mass-produced radios.
I find the unit surprisingly compact for a stereo radio, taking up about 1/4 of my nightstand. Its shortcomings are apparent only to those who depend on viewing the screen of their radios on a regular basis. It will not show the time when the radio is "on" (a curious quirk), and the sightlines are quite narrow (it's hard to see the screen from any position from below the radio.)I don't buy radios to watch them, so no problem in my case.
[If you're new to HD radio, I'd advise against spending any more.HD radio has the potential to offer a static-free signal but not audio production that's dramatically superior to regular FM.Its primary advantage is that, unlike Sirius, it's free, and it permits stations to multicast if they so choose. So it all comes to, above all, "content"--not technology.Until you're sure that your location has HD programming that's strong enough to be captured by your set-up and is diverse enough to satisfy your palette, it would be foolhardy to spend extra on any audio product simply because it offers "HD radio" reception. The technology simply has not realized the potential predicted for it in 2005, and the consumer who has high expectations is consequently ripe for a huge disappointment.]
